Investments and Gardening

| Imagine having to prune and maintain this garden |
Apr 12, 2005
Investing can be very similar to maintaining a garden.
To maintain a garden, you require a variety of different plants. Some will be perennial, some will be evergreen, and others annuals. In order to have a good and beautiful garden, you need to have a variety of different types of plants and you need to prune your garden and cut back the evergreens to get new growth.
You need to fertilize the annuals continuously to ensure that they flower specactularily all summer long but they die off in our Canadian climate and you need to replace them each year. A garden with an abundance of these flowers will show a dramatic difference over the seasons.
Perennials need to be both fertalized and divided and cut back each year to ensure continued health. This garden will provide for vegitation all year round.
Young people and young gardens often will have the time and energy to have a colourful garden. As people age, they often become dependant on a lower maintenance and greener garden (more fixed income). It is important for investors to understand which type of 'garden' is right for them while working with an advisor to help them trim the garden and keep it looking good.
