How Do We Do What We Do?
We generally follow fifteen principal steps:
- Send introduction package. This includes our background, list of requested information and documentation for the first meeting. (Pre-meeting)
- Complete cash flow and net worth statement while reviewing current financial situation of the client. (Meeting 1 – approximate value $150)
- Determine investment objectives and risk profile through interview and questionnaire. (Meeting 1)
- Learn about client’s life goals and strengths and weaknesses of current strategy. (Meeting 1)
- Letter of engagement detailing scope of relationship. (Meeting 2)
- Establish investment policy based on objectives and risk profile. Ideally, we will produce a formal Investment Policy Statement ("IPS"). (Meeting 3 – approximate value $500)
- Create a full or partial financial plan, as and when appropriate for the client. (Meeting 4 – approximate value $500-$2,500)
- Implement financial plan and investment program. (Meeting 4)
- Receive referrals for others who would benefit from our defined process. (Meeting 4)
- Review current insurance portfolio. (Meeting 5 – approximate value $250)
- Implement any changes and additions to insurance portfolio. (Meeting 6)
- Monitor the plan and components and update with the client annually to confirm or update the client’s objectives and financial plan. (Ongoing)
- Provide regular contact using different mediums (meetings, telephone, Email and Canada Post). (Ongoing)
- Continuously update our own expertise in the financial planning, insurance and investment fields through continuing education courses, reading and seminar attendance. (We each dedicate 50-100 hours annually)
- Ongoing monitoring and research of the investment managers used in our clients’ portfolios, through conference calls, review of reports, attendance and interviews of portfolio manager presentations. (Ongoing)
The approximate values stated above are intended to guide you as to the special time commitment we make at different stages of our engagement and ongoing relationship. Where we receive compensation from product providers (on investment and insurance solutions) we will reduce or waive our fees.
